Our biggest and most important program is our rural low cost spay/neuter program. It is near and dear to our hearts because we believe that all dogs and cats should be altered at an early age.
Spaying or neutering your dog or cat is the single most important preventative health measure that you can take. Altered pets are at a significantly reduced risk for ovarian cancer, uterine cancer, mammary cancer, testicular cancer, and prostate disease. They are also at a reduced risk for roaming or escaping, which in turn decreases their risk of being hit by a car, shot, or injured by other animals. Altered pets also have fewer aggression problems and are less likely to mark with their urine. This leads to a more enjoyable human-animal relationship.
Golden Heart Pet Assistance League is currently sponsoring this low cost spay/neuter program for all of the above reasons. More than this, we hope to reduce the number of animals euthanized or inhumanely tossed aside because of the tremendous animal overpopulation issue that we have in this country. Why contribute to the problem?
